Maga-Tsuki Manga Review
Not all harems are bad, but this is one harem that you'll want to steer clear of.
PRODUCTION INFO
Maga-Tsuki is a harem comedy manga written and illustrated by Taguchi Hoshino. It was first released in February 2011 and is still currently ongoing. The English version is available on Crunchyroll with a premium membership.
STORY
Maga-Tsuki is about a perverted high school student named Yasuke who likes to sneak peaks in the girl’s changing room with his friends. One day he breaks a sacred mirror in his house, and releases the goddess of misfortune, Seori, who places a curse upon Yasuke. Now, Yasuke must touch Seori at all times, or else he will die. The only way to lift the curse is to make the goddess happy, but as the mighty goddess Amaterasu, Yasuke’s childhood friend Akari, and a fox spirit get involved, Yasuke must make each of them happy as they hold his soul one at a time. While Yasuke struggles for excuses to touch the girls who bear his soul, his appearance remains as that of having his own personal harem.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect a lot of fanservice. Maga-Tsuki is very ecchi, and there’s little point to the plot besides Yasuke’s growing harem. It has the aspects of a potential romance, but the ecchi and stale comedy brings it down to a level of harem that doesn’t hold any other purpose...
MAIN CHARACTERS
Yasuke is your typical harem guy. He’s perverted, and he doesn’t have much personality. His main focus is to get out of his predicament involving his soul being taken away by Seori’s curse. He has a crush on his childhood friend Akari, but can’t seem to find the right time to say so, especially with Seori and Amaterasu confessing to him so quickly.
Akari feels the same for Yasuke as he does for her, but neither of them knows about the other’s feelings. When Seori appeared at school clungto Yasuke by the arm, she got jealous and ended up among the mess, having Yasuke’s soul put into her own body. When that happens, Yasuke must cling to Akari the same as he had to for Seori, in order to stay alive.
Seori is the goddess of misfortune whoput a curse on Yasuke. Since Yasuke cannot live without touching Seori at all times, Seori transfers into Yasuke’s school as his cousin who has severe social anxiety. She is a very naive girl who is oblivious to anything ecchi or embarrassing.
Amaterasu is the great deity of the sun according to Shinto legend. She’s also Seori’s sister, who is initially jealous of Yasuke, but later joins in on his harem. She’s a bit aggressive.
OPINIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
This mess is one terrible, terrible harem... The only likable character is Seori, it’s not discreet at all about being a harem, Yasuke himself is not exactly a good guy, and the entire idea of having to go to school with a girl clung toyou is ridiculous. First of all, how did Seori and Amaterasu even transfer that quickly? Did all the paperwork go through so fast? They say that Yasuke’s older sister made it work because she holds some mysterious power over the school, but they never explain what this power is. It’s just an excuse for a plothole (plus trope) that’s written off as comedy. The ecchi side of this manga is also quite heavy, further proving to its audience how worthless it is as a story! The romance aspect is so unrealistic and the crude idea of the harem ruins the pureness of it anyway. It’s horrible.
