SUMMARY
Masamune Izumi has been left alone at home by his father with his hikikomori step-sister, Sagiri Izumi. As a high school student, Masamune works as a light novel author in order to make income to support himself and Sagiri. He's not an especially good author, but he has the ability to write eight new stories per week; an incredible rate! Although he has been writing since middle school, he's never actually met his illustrator, having only communicated with him through his editor. But now, he accidentally stumbles upon some evidence that his illustrator is actually his sister, working straight from the never-opening room in their very residence! Finally, Masamune gets an opportunity to communicate with his sister, and look inside the locked door.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This is an ecchi LN, with both ecchi images and ecchi descriptions. There is incestuous romance, so if that's not your cup of tea, don't waste your time. This was also made by the author of Oreimo, so there are similarities like that, and they both also have chuunibyou characters (Ruri in Oreimo, Yamada in Ero Manga Sensei). The art style is also the same, not that it has a big impact on a light novel. Ero Manga Sensei also has a tendency to inspire its readers to write or draw, if they are into those hobbies. It's a great motivation for creative habits. There's also a ton of geeky references in the light novels!
MAIN CHARACTERS
Masamune Izumi is the main protagonist of Ero Manga
Sensei, and you follow the story through his perspective. He lives alone with Sagiri, his step-sister, and works as an author to provide an income to the small household. Since his sister is a hikikomori, she does not leave her room and Masamune delivers food he prepared to her door in order for her to eat. Even though he had barely ever seen Sagiri, he cares for her very much. As a light novel author, Masamune possesses an ability to write at an amazingly high speed; reaching up to eight stories per week. Sagiri Izumi, Masamune's little step-sister, is a hikikomori. If he doesn't bring her food, she doesn't eat. If he doesn't leave the house, she doesn't bathe. She simply refuses to be seen. However, she has an entire fan base online through live streams and social networking. On the Internet, she is known as Ero Manga Sensei, a perverted name that makes most people believe she is actually male. Of course, as a hikikomori, she doesn't ever reveal details about who she really is, and for Sagiri, that includes her gender. Although she tries to hide it, she really is as perverted as her pen name indicates.
OPINIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
Ero Manga Sensei is strangely a big inspiration for me. It has the same impact on me as a masterpiece like Bakuman., only Ero Manga Sensei is very mature in content. The thing is, I love creatively hard-working characters. It makes me want to be as successful as who I'm watching wants to be. Not only that, but I love moe, and this light novel series combines both of those themes. It's super cute and sexy, plus it gives me energy to work! A double-whammy of a series! I seriously think Ero Manga Sensei could become an incredible anime someday, if it ever gets the adaption. It's gotten a manga adaption so it's entirely possible that it'll someday make it's TV debut. I recommend the light novel series Book Girl, Oreimo, and Haganai for fans of Ero Manga Sensei!
